Can Sports inspire art?

It’s gone, home run! is what you hear upon entering the art studio at Bloomin’ Barn in Wellington, Prince Edward County.

While surrounded by larger than life paintings of flowers in all shapes and sizes, you can hear in the background a sports game on the radio or T.V. Why? Margaret McFetridge listens to sports while she paints and paint she does!!

In the small community of Wellington, artists abound. You could take a short walk and stop by at least four studios of different mediums.  One such studio is Bloomin’ Barn.

This little cottage is surrounded by a massed wilderness of flowers-Margaret’s inspiration. The studio is full of windows and light and know that you have

found a small peace of paradise.  Flowers are everywhere.

Large poppies hang high, and the barn walls are covered with an assortment of flowers large and small but all with colour and beauty.  It is hard to decide which painting you would choose to immerse yourself in. I could sit and enjoy them all day long.

The wonderful thing is you can take one home with you.

Asking Margaret why she moved here received a simple answer. “I wanted to be surrounded by beauty for the rest of my life.” Margaret has been creative as far back as she remembers.

She started drawing as a young child later attending the art gallery of Ontario. It wasn’t until her early 50’s that she begun painting with oil. She has never looked back. Her paintings are large, full of color and emotion. A sense of wonder comes over you while you look at them.
